Be thou my vision
English Summary
There is a famous hymn called 'Be Thou My Vision'. But what exactly is 'Be Thou My Vision'?
"Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he."(Proverbs 29:18, KJV)
I have considered my encounters with special scenery as a kind of vision in the biblical sense.
A Taiwanese audiobook biblical website explains what 'Be Thou My Vision' actually means or implies, and suggest the way of how we can see God's vision (http://www.hymncompanions.org/Sep/18/stream.php):
"To see God's vision, one must be patient and wait. Time is decisive. We need to wait patiently in front of God for Him to reveal Himself. A rippling lake surface cannot reflect any particular thing.
Therefore, if we wish to see God's vision, we need to rest in His presence first.
Let's calm down the storms in our life. Meeting God is the most powerful and influential issue in our life. Meeting God often bring about tremendous changes in our life.
Achieving complete inner peace is extremely difficult. But in fact, God always speaks to us...Revelation, or vision, is the word of God, giving us a sense of urgency or direction. "
My thoughts after reading the above article was that "seeing God" does not refer to seeing Him with our eyes. Rather, it is experiencing God and receiving His personal message for me. For example, reminders, guidance, comfort...
Faith is not just knowledge, but rather establishing a close and personal relationship with God, with Jesus Christ.
We need a calm and still mind, like a mirror, in order to see God. We should set aside the best time of the day and mental space for Him. We can better understand Him through reading the Bible, worshipping, responding, asking questions, and praying.
Below are four photos of a glorious sunrise in four days at the same spot. 'Glorious and huge sun' was written in the Chinese lyrics of the song 'Be Thou My Vision'. The photos illustrate how glorious and huge visually is the sun:

Be thou my vision'
而 'Be thou my vision' 一曲僅記得這四字,
(Be Thou My Vision)

Be Thou My Vision',
Be Thou My Vision
(English version lyrics by Eleanor Hull, 1912)
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
(The English Methodist version from 1964 omits verse 3.)
